Tom Johnson
This is my favorite autograph of the mail post. This is Tom Johnson’s only certified
autograph. He passed away in 2007,
the same year this set was released.
Johnson won 6 Stanley Cups as a Montreal Canadiens defeseman. He was a top D-man for the team from
1950-1963. He won a 7th
and 8th Stanley Cup as a Bruins assistant GM and then coach in 1970
and 1972. The 1959 Norris Trophy
winner was inducted into the HHOF in 1970.
Ron Wilson and Bill Sutherland
Although his first cert autograph comes as a coach Ron
Wilson played nearly 200 NHL games between the Toronto Maple Leafs and
Minnesota North Stars. He retired
as a player in 1988 and was back into the NHL 2 years later as an assistant
coach with the Vancouver Canucks.
He has since been head coach of the Mighty Ducks, Capitals, Sharks and
Maple Leafs.
Bill Sutherland was one of many players to benefit from the
1967 expansion. He had previously
only played 2 playoff games with the Montreal Canadiens in 1963 but found a
full time roster spot on the new Philly Flyers. He scored the first goal in
Philadelphia Flyer history. Sutherland saw over 250 NHL games and suited up for
the Leafs, Blues and Red Wings along with the Flyers. He retired as a Winnipeg Jet of the WHA in 1974 and was an
assistant coach with the club when they broke into the NHL in 1980.
Leon Rochefort and Orest Kindrachuk
From 1960-1976 Leon Rochefort played over 600 NHL
games. He won two Stanley Cups
with the Montreal Canadiens in 1966 and 1971. He lead the expansion Flyers in goals during the 67/68
season with 21.
Orest Kindrachuk won 2 Stanley Cups with the Philadelphia
Flyers. The veteran of over 500
NHL games was captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1978-1981.
Carol Vadnais
Carol Vadnais won two Stanley Cups. One with the 1968 Montreal Canadiens
and the other with the 1972 Boston Bruins. He played over 1000 games, appeared in 6 All-Star games and
spent time as captain of the California Golden Seals.
Terry Crisp
Terry Crisp was a member of the Stanley Cup winning 1974 and
1975 Philadelphia Flyers. He
coached the Calgary Flames to the 1989 Stanley Cup to earn his name on the
trophy for a third time.
Marc Savard and Martin St. Louis
Marc Savard netted over 700 points in just over 800 NHL
games playing for the New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers and
Boston Bruins. His career was
ended by a concussion in 2011 but he played enough games for the Bruins, 25, to
earn his name on the Stanley Cup.
A 6 time NHL All-Star Martin St. Louis dominated the NHL in
03/04 and won the Art Ross, Lester B. Pearson, Hart and Stanley Cup. He has remained a scoring threat in the
league and claimed the Lady Byng in 2010 and 2011.
Tom Sestito and Raffi Torres
In only 27 NHL games Tom Sestito racked up 147 penalty
minutes. The tough guy has played
for the Blue Jackets and Flyers.
Recently handed a 25 game suspension from the NHL Raffi
Torres scored 27 goals for the 05/06 Edmonton Oilers and helped the team reach
the Stanley Cup finals that season.
Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Kris Russell
From 2005-2009 Ole-Kristian Tollefsen was a full time member
of the Columbus Blue Jackets. He
also spent a full season with the 09/10 Philadelphia Flyers and after that the
Norwegian d-man returned to Europe.
After five years with the Columbus Blue Jackets the
offensive defeseman was traded to the St. Louis Blues and helped the team
finish with a surprising regular season record.
Jeff Hogan and Matt Carle
Jeff Hogan played over 100 games between the Blues, Bruins
and Coyotes.
Matt Carle jumped into the league with a 42 point rookie
season in 06/07 with the San Jose Sharks.
The defeseman and 2006 Hobey Baker award winner is now a top-4 d man
with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Travis Zajac and Matt Gilroy
Travis Zajac was the 20th overall pick of the
Devils in the 2004 NHL draft. He
has developed into a contributing scorer and helped the Devils reach the 2012
Stanley Cup finals scoring 14 points in the playoffs.
After winning the 2009 Hobey Baker award Matt Gilroy was
signed by the NY Rangers with much hype.
He would only spend two years with the team and split last season
between the Lightning and Senators.
Mathieu Dandenault and Matt Stajan
Mathieu Dandenault broke into the NHL in 1995 with the Red
Wings and would win 3 Stanley Cups with the team in 1997, 1998 and 2002. He spent the last four years of his
career in Montreal.
Matt Stajan spent most of the first 6 years of his NHL
career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He was acquired by the Calgary Flames in the trade that saw Dion Paneuf
go the other way. He’s played over
600 NHL games and is approaching 300 points.
Manny Malhotra and Scott Hannan
The 7th overall pick of the Rangers in 1998 Manny
Malhora has carved out a career of nearly 900 NHL games as a bottom line centre. He’s currently an assistant captain
with the Vancouver Canucks.
Defenseman Scott Hannan has played over 900 NHL games
between San Jose, Colorado, Washington and Calgary. He recently signed with the Nashville Predators.
Oscar Moller and Rich Peverley
From 2008-2011 Oscar Moller played 87 games for the LA Kings
and scored 12 goals and 26 points.
He’s spent the last couple of years in Europe.
Rich Peverley broke into the league with the 06/07 Nashville
Predators. He developed into an
NHL scorer with the Atlanta Thrashers and in 2011 he won the Stanley Cup as a
Boston Bruin.
Taylor Pyatt and Bill Guerin
Taylor Pyatt has played a dozen seasons of NHL hockey having
suited up for the NY Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix
Coyotes.
Bill Guerin contributed 11 points to the 1995 Stanley Cup
winning New Jersey Devils playoff run early in his career and 15 points to the
2009 Stanley Cup winning Pittsburgh Penguins late in his career. He retired in 2010 with over 1200 games
played and over 400 goals scored.
Keith Primeau and Rob Niedermayer
Keith Primeau was Detroit’s first round pick, 3rd
overall, of the 1990 NHL draft. He
was traded to the Hartford Whalers in 1996 in a deal that saw Brendan Shanahan
go to the Red Wings. He was the
second ever captain of the Carolina Hurricanes and from 2001-2006 wore the C
for the Philadelphia Flyers.
The 5th overall pick in 1993 Rob Niedermayer was the first player
ever drafted by the Florida Panthers.
He helped the Panthers reach the Cup finals in 1996, helped the Mighty
Ducks reach the finals in 2003 and then finally claimed a Stanley Cup with the
2007 Anaheim Ducks. He left the
NHL having played well over 1000 games.
Matthew Barnaby and Valeri Bure
Matthew Barnaby retired with over 2500 NHL penalty minutes
and well over 800 games played.
From 1993-2007 he dressed with the Sabres, Penguins, Lightning, Rangers,
Avalanche, Blackhawks and Stars.
Brother of HHOFer Pavel, Valeri Bure was himself a quality
NHL scorer who netted 20+ NHL goals 5 times. With team Russia he won a 1998 Olympic silver medal and 2002
Olympic bronze medal.
Craig Berube and Vladimir Malakhov
Craig Berube was a tough customer who racked up over 3000
career penalty minutes through 17 seasons. He’s currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia
Flyers.
Vladimir Malakhov scored 52 points from the blueline during
his 92/93 rookie season with the NY Islanders and made the NHL’s All-Rookie
team. With team Russia he won a
1992 Olympic gold medal and 2002 bronze medal. He helped the New Jersey Devils win the 2000 Stanley Cup.
Trent Klatt and Brian Lee
Through 14 seasons in the NHL Trent Klatt dressed for the
North Stars, Stars, Flyers, Canucks and Kings. He retired a King in 2004.
The 9th overall pick of the 2005 NHL draft Brian
Lee has seen nearly 200 NHL games between the Ottawa Senators and most recently
the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Charles Linglet and Rob Schremp
Charles Linglet’s only certified autograph comes from his
Baie-Comeau junior team. He saw 5
games with the 09/10 Edmonton Oilers and has spent the last three seasons in
the KHL.
Rob Schremp was a junior star who scored 57 goals and 145
points in 57 games with the 05/06 London Knights. The Edmonton Oiler’s first round draft pick could not
develop into a solid NHL player.
He scored 20 goals in 114 NHL games between the Oilers, Islanders and
Thrashers.
Mike Torchia and Adam Cracknell
Mike Torchia appeared in 6 games between the pipes for the
94/95 Dallas Stars.
Since 2010 Adam Cracknell has played 26 games for the St.
Louis Blues and has scored 4 goals and 8 points.
Francois Groleau and Patrice Tardif
In the mid 1990s Francois Groleau played 8 games for the
Montreal Canadiens.
Since it’s from a team signed set I picked this Patrice
Tardif card up to go with my index for good measure. He played 65 NHL games and netted 18 points.
Rocky Farr and Robbie Irons
From 1972-1975 Rocky Farr played 19 games for the Buffalo
Sabres.
Robbie Irons appeared in 1 game, 3 minutes, for the 68/69
St. Louis Blues.
Jim Bedard and Darren Jensen
From 1977 to 1979 Jim Bedard tended net 73 times for the
Washington Capitals. As Detroit
Red Wing goalie coach he won the Stanley Cup in 98, 02 and 08.
Darren Jensen suited up for 30 games with the Philadelphia
Flyers in the mid 1980s. He shared
the 1986 Jennings with Bob Froese.
Richard Shulmistra and Troy Gamble
Richard Shulmistra played a game for the 97/98 New Jersey
Devils and a game for the 99/00 Florida Panthers.
Troy Gamble played 72 games for the Vancouver Canucks in the
late 80s and early 90s.
Stephane Beauregard and Ron Scott
Stephane Beauregard played goal for the Winnipeg Jets and
Philadelphia Flyers. He was traded
to the Winnipeg Jets three times throughout his short career.
Ron Scott saw action in 28 NHL games between the New York
Rangers and Los Angeles Kings.
Gilles Boisvert and Trevor Fahey
Gilles Boisvert played 3 games for the 59/60 Detroit Red
Wings.
Trevor Fahey played a single NHL game for the 64/65 New York
Rangers.
Frank Beaton and Bill Bennett
Tough guy Frank Beaton appeared in 25 NHL games for the New
York Rangers. He spent three years
in the WHA and playing for the Birmingham Bulls in 77/78 he amassed 279 penalty
minutes in only 56 games.
Bill Bennett played 7 games for the 78/79 Boston Bruins and
24 games for the 79/80 Hartford Whalers.
Lane Lambert and Chris Ahrens
Lane Lambert saw 300 games in the NHL and is currently an
assistant coach with the Nashville Predators.
Between 1973 and 1978 Chris Ahrens dressed in 52 games for
the Minnesota North Stars. He also
spent a little time with the Edmonton Oilers of the WHA.
Iain Fraser and Stephane Charbonneau
In just under 100 NHL games Iain Fraser managed to suit up
for the Nordiques, Islanders, Stars, Oilers, Jets and Sharks.
Stephane Charbonneau played 2 games for the 91/92 Quebec
Nordiques.
Bob Collyard and Ron Carter
Bob Collyard scored a goal and netted 4 points in his 10
game NHL career for the 73/74 St. Louis Blues.
Ron Carter played 2 games for the inaugural 79/80 Edmonton
Oilers NHL team.
Drew Callander and Rick Jodzio
Drew Callander played 39 NHL games and suited up for both
the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks.
Rick Jodzio spent 3 years in the WHA. One was with the Vancouver Blazers and
the other two spent with the Calgary Cowboys. He split one NHL season, playing
70 games, between the 77/78 Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Barons.
Peter Andersson (b.1962) and Tim Bergland
Swede Peter Andersson played over 170 NHL games between the Capitals and Nordiques in the mid 1980s.
From 1989 to 1994 Tim Bergland played over NHL games skating
for the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Randy Bucyk and Dean Talafous
Randy Bucyk played 20 NHL games for the 85/86 Montreal
Canadiens and scored 4 goals. He
won the 1985 Calder Cup and the 1986 Stanley Cup. His name was left off the Stanley Cup but he was awarded a
ring and is in the team picture.
He also played 2 games for the 87/88 Calgary Flames. He’s the nephew of HHOFer Johnny Bucyk.
Between 1974 and 1982 Dean Talafous played over 500 NHL
games and scored over 100 goals and 250 points. He played for the Atlanta Flames, Minnesota North Stars and
New York Rangers.
Ron Murphy and Roman Tvrdon
Ron Murphy played over 900 NHL games from 1952-1970. He Scored over 200 goals and was an NHL
All-Star and Stanley Cup winner with the 1961 Chicago Blackhawks. He scored 54 points in 60 games with
the 68/69 Boston Bruins while on a line with Phil Esposito and Ken Hodge. He retired a Stanley Cup champion with
the 1970 Boston Bruins.
Slovakian Roman Tvrdon collected 1 assist in 9 career NHL
games with the 03/04 Washington Capitals.
Lee Sweatt
Lee Sweatt played 3 games for the 10/11 Vancouver Canucks,
scored a goal and an assist, then retired that summer to become a financial
advisor were he expects to make more money.
The following autographs go into by various “other” binders
as none played in the NHL.
George Burnett
George Burnett spent 35 games as Edmonton Oilers head coach
during the 94/95 season. He also
spent a couple seasons as an assistant coach in Anaheim.
Michel Therrien and Barry Smith
From 2000-2003 Michel Therrien was head coach of the
Montreal Canadiens. From 2006-2009
he coached Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was recently hired again as a head coach in
Montreal.
As an NHL assistant coach Barry Smith won the Stanley Cup in
1991, 1992, 1997, 1998 and 2002.
Nick Polano
As a player Nick Polano played 17 games for the 72/73
Philadelphia Blazers of the WHA.
He coached the Detroit Red Wings for 3 years and was Steve Yzerman’s
first NHL coach.
Jeff Carlson
A member of the famed Hansen brother trio from the movie
Slapshot Jeff Carlson will actually go into my WHA binder since he played 7
games for the 75/76 Minnesota Fighting Saints.
Paul Carey
Paul Carey’s connection to the NHL is through his brother
Jim, a goalie who won the 1996 Vezina trophy. Paul Carey played a handful of games for the Baltimore
Orioles in 1993. He didn’t sign my
index, instead one of the blank index cards I include to protect the one I made. I had to get creative and insert the
autograph into a new index with my standard design.
Patrick Gilmore
Patrick Gilmore is an actor who has appeared in numerous tv
shows and movies. His connection
to the game is through his father Tom Gilmore who played over 200 WHA games,
the majority with the Edmonton Oilers.
Richard Martel
I picked up this certified junior coach autograph because
Richard Martel is notable for being the head coach for the most QMJHL games and
being the league’s most winningest coach.
