Month of Mail - January 2022

A few old autographs on a team signed 1946-47 Omaha Knights photo found in a scrapbook is the big add from January. Unfortunately, and likely due to Covid, TTM returns continue to be abysmal this year.

5 new NHL player autographs added this month means that the grand total of unique signatures in my collection is now 7,076 for 90% of everyone to every play in the league.

                   Don Morrison (d. 2001)
From 1947 to 1951 Don Morrison scored 18 goals and 46 points in 112 career NHL games between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks.

                Carl "Winkie" Smith (d. 1967)
Carl "Winkie" Smith scored 1 goal and 2 points in 7 career NHL games with the 1943/44 Detroit Red Wings. His brother, Nakina, also played in the NHL. Some sources have Carl's nickname listed as "Winky" but as we can see, he signed as "Winkie," which is also how newspapers from the period spelled it.

                     Barry Sullivan (d. 1989)
Barry Sullivan played 1 game in the NHL with the 1947/48 Detroit Red Wings.

                           Ed Reigle (d. 2003)
Defenseman Ed Reigle played 17 games in the NHL with the 1950/51 Boston Bruins. Reigle later found success as a coach. He was Canadian but he coached the 1960 Swedish Olympic team and the 1968 West Germany Olympic team.

                             Giovanni Fiore
Fiore or the team returned my card unsigned but did included this signed postcard. Perhaps thats a Covid related thing but I'm happy to get his autograph as this is definitely authentic. Fiore played 1 game in the NHL with the 2017-18 Anaheim Ducks.

               Nathan Schoenfeld
Nathan Schoenfeld dressed in 1 NHL game with the 2015/16 Arizona Coyotes as an emergency backup goalie. He spent a full game on the bench as backup to Mike Smith.
This autograph goes with my collection of NHL 'backup only' goalies.

  1. 90% of players to play in the NHL, that is unreal. Will be following your blog going forward to see your progress.

Where did you find that scrapbook?
