Months of Mail - June, July & August 2025

The quest continues! This summer saw 8 new NHL player autographs added making the grand total 7,653 unique player signatures for 94% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                          Frank Daley (d. 1968)
Frank Daley played 5 regular season and 2 playoff games in the NHL with the 1928-29 Detroit Cougars. He continued playing pro hockey well into the 1940s.

                       Roger Jenkins (d. 1994)
Through the 1930s Roger Jenkins played well over 300 games in the NHL. He was well travelled at a time when players didn't get around so much. A defenseman, Jenkins played for the Maple Leafs, Blackhawks,  Canadiens, Bruins, Maroons and Americans. With Chicago, he won the Stanley Cup in 1934 and 1938.

                             Connie Forey
Connie Forey played 4 games in the NHL with the 1973-74 St. Louis Blues. He also played 1 game in the WHA with the 1973-74 Chicago Cougars. He's perhaps best known for violently attacking a referee in the WHL in 1974, effectively ending his career. From what I read, he had come from a wealthy family and when he walked away from the game, he left it behind for good. I think that's why he proved so difficult to track down and I settled for this signature from an old program.

                         Hugh Currie (d. 2017)
Hugh Currie had a long pro hockey career but played just 1 game in the NHL, suiting up with the 1950-51 Montreal Canadiens.

                    Rejean Cloutier
I was ecstatic to get this one back. There are only 25 living former NHLers I haven't been able to connect with for an autograph and Cloutier had been on that list. He played 5 games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings during the early 1980s. He played pro throughout the 1980s but I was never able to find his signature on a program or picture. Merci beacoup Rejean!

                          Joe Jerwa (d. 1983)
During the 1930s, Joe Jerwa played well over 200 games in the NHL. He played for the New York Rangers, New York Americans and Boston Bruins. His brother, Frank, also played in the NHL.

            Pete Slobodian (d. 1986)
Defenseman Pete Slobodian spent 1 season in the NHL, playing 41 games with the 1940-41 New York Americans.

                             Paul Messier
Best known as Mark's older brother, Paul Messier played 9 games in the NHL with the 1978-79 Colorado Rockies. I searched and searched for a way to get in touch with Paul but always came up short. This autograph actually came from Europe. Paul spent many years playing pro in Germany and he signed this autograph during that time.

                   Paul McFarland
McFarland has spent time in the NHL as an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers (2017-19), Toronto Maple Leafs (2019-20) and Seattle Kraken (2021-24). He was recently hired as assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers. As a player, McFarland won the Memorial Cup with the 2003 Kitchener Rangers but never played pro. This goes with my collection of autographs of NHL GMs and coaches who did not play in the NHL.
