Mail: 1950s Quebec Aces Autographs

Just one envelope in the mail these last couple weeks but its worthy of its own post. Six old 1950s Quebec Aces signed photos. They are slightly larger than a postcard but much smaller than a 8x10. They scanned very poorly so I had to break out the camera, all the autographs look much better in person. A seller listed a bunch of old Aces stuff and although there were eight total signed photos I wanted, my small budget forced me to lose out on the two nicest ones. I'm still very happy with these six hard to find autographs, especially considering five of the players have long passed away. 

The grand total of unique NHL autographs in the collection is now 4,833 for 66% of everyone who has ever played in the league.

Ralph 'Bucky' Buchanan

Ralph 'Bucky' Buchanan played 2 games in the NHL with the 1948/49 New York Rangers. From 1941 to 1945 he put his pro hockey career on hold and served with the Canadian Navy during WW2. His son, Ron, also went on to play in the NHL. Ralph passed away in 2005.

Mike Labadie

Mike Labadie spent a couple decades playing pro hockey but his NHL career was brief. He played 3 career NHL games with the 1952/53 New York Rangers. 

Ray Powell

Ray Powell spent one season in the NHL, scoring 7 goals and 22 points in 31 career games with the 1950/51 Chicago Blackhawks. He spent time with the Red Wings and Blackhawks but never made it  out of their farm teams. Powell passed away in 1999. 

Larry Regan

Larry Regan is most notable for winning the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year with the 1956/57 Boston Bruins. He only spent five seasons in the NHL, last playing for the 1960/61 Toronto Maple Leafs. He played 280 regular season NHL games between the Bruins and Leafs. From 1967 to 1973 Regan was General Manager of the Los Angeles Kings, the first GM in team history. He also spent a season as the team's head coach. Regan passed away in 2009.

Alan 'Skip' Teal

Skip Teal played just 1 career NHL game, with the 1954/55 Boston Bruins. He's also notable for winning the Memorial Cup in 1953, his last season of junior hockey. His younger brother, Vic, was also a 'one game wonder' in the NHL. Skip passed away in 2006.

Ed Zeniuk

Ed Zeniuk only spent a few seasons playing pro hockey in the 1950s. He played 2 career NHL games with the 1954/55 Detroit Red Wings, the eventual Stanley Cup winners. The defenceman was held pointless in his 2 NHL games. He passed away in 1996.
