Month of Mail - April 2023

My April mail was highlighted by a trade (thanks Ty!), a 1953-54 Calgary Stampeders team signed scrapbook and a 1970s Seattle totems autograph scrapbook.

With 10 new signatures added the grand total of unique NHL player autographs in my collection now stands at 7,341.

Clarence "Taffy" Abel (d. 1964)
From 1926 to 1934 Taffy Abel played well over 300 games in the NHL between the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. He won the Cup with the Rangers in 1928 and with Chicago in 1934.  Internationally, he won a silver medal with USA at the 1924 Olympics. He's a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.

Tommy Anderson (d. 1971)
Tommy Anderson is best known as the winner of the 1942 Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player. He had set a long since broken NHL record for points by a defenceman with 41 in 48 games. Military service interrupted Andersons' career and incredibly, he never played in the NHL again after winning the Hart Trophy.

Earl Robertson (d. 1979)
Goalie Earl Robertson made his NHL debut in the playoffs with the 1937 Detroit Red Wings, joining the team to replace an injured Normie Smith. Robertson backstopped Detroit to the Stanley Cup. The following season he became a full time NHL goalie with the New York Americans.

Johnny Arundel (d. 2002)
Arundel played 3 games in the NHL with the 1949-50 Toronto Maple Leafs.

Red Dutton (d. 1987)
From 1926 to 1936 Red Dutton played 449 regular season games in the NHL between the Montreal Maroons and New York Americans. He later coached the Americans and spent time as President of the NHL. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958.
