A Few HHOFers and a Couple Soviets

69 new NHL autographs have been added to my collection since the last post, this brings the grand total up to 3,117 unique signatures.  

Vladimir Krutov and Woody Dumart

I was very happy to knock this Vladimir Krutov autograph off my wantlist.  He died in 2012 and has a very limited number of signatures on the market.  He was a member of the great Russian KLM line and won a couple Olympic gold medals, being one of the the USSR's best forwards.  He played a single season in the NHL for Vancouver towards the end of his career.  He scored 34 points in 61 games with the 1989/90 Canucks.
These Parkhurst signatures were produced by ITG's Brian Price and used in 04/05 Ultimate. Woody Dumart died in 2001 so he only has a couple certified autographs.  He's a Stanley Cup winner and Hockey Hall of Famer.

Red Kelly and Alex Delvecchio

Hockey Hall of Famer Red Kelly won 8 Stanley Cups.  He has so many autographs on the market that I was able to pick this one up for just a couple bucks.
Another cheap autograph due to a flooded market, Hockey Hall of Famer Alex Delvecchio won 3 Stanley Cups with the Red Wings and was their team captain for 12 seasons.

Ken Wharram and Bob Pulford

This is currently Kenny Wharram's only certified autograph.  I paid a bit more than I would have liked for it but am happy to get his signature off the want list.  He was a long time Chicago Blackhawk and helped the team win the 1961 Stanley Cup.
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991, Bob Pulford won the Stanley Cup 4 times as a member of the Maple Leafs.  He later spent time as a coach and GM in the NHL, winning the 1975 Jack Adams award as coach of the year.

Bryan Trottier and Wilf Paiement

Hockey Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier has his name on the Stanley Cup 6 times as a player and once as a coach.  He won numerous awards throughout his career including the 1979 Hart Trophy as player of the year.  He has many certified autographs on the market so this was another cheap pickup, great for my meagre budget.
Chosen second overall by the Kansas City Scouts in 1974, Wilf Paiement developed into an NHL star. He scored 40+ goals in a single season twice, once with the Colorado Rockies and once with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  He's one of a handful of players to wear #99 before it was retired league wide.  

Paul Woods and Metro Prystai

Between 1977 and 1984 Paul Woods played 500+ NHL games, all for the Detroit Red Wings.  He was a bottom line forward who's best season was a 19 goal year.  I was rather surprised to see Woods included in this set.  Its currently his only certified autograph.
Like Woods, Metro Prystai received his first certified autograph in ITG's Motown Madness.  While a member of the Red Wings Prystai won 2 Stanley Cups, in 1952 and 1954.

Barry Beck and Mike Milbury

Since this Voices of the Game autograph is Mike Milbury's only certified autograph it has been on my wantlist for some time.  I couldn't bring myself to pick one up until this one was had for very cheap, the reason being that I rather dislike Mr. Milbury.  I feel sorry for the Americans that have to listen to his commentating through games.  Before becoming a sportscaster he was a long time Boston Bruin player as well as head coach and general manager. 

Defenceman Barry Beck played 10 seasons of NHL hockey.  He was a star player who played in 3 NHL All-Star games and spent 5 years as the New York Ranger's captain. 

Ed Giacomin and Charlie Hodge

Hockey Hall of Famer Ed Giacomin played in 6 NHL All-Star games and has his name on the Vezina as the league's best netminder. 

NHL All-Star and 2 time Vezina Winner Charlie Hodge has his name on the Stanley Cup 6 times.  

Glen Hanlon and Chico Resch

Glen Hanlon recently received his first NHL certified autographs in Between the Pipes.  Hanlon appeared in 500+ NHL games as a goalie and later returned to the league as a head coach.  

Chico Resch won the 1982 Bill Masterton Trophy and got his name on the Stanley Cup in 1980 as the Islander's backup goalie. 

Steve Mason and Allen York

The value of Steve Mason's cards have steadily fallen since his Calder winning rookie season.  Prices have pretty much hit rock bottom since I was able to pick this one up for an opening bid of $0.99.  Maybe he can get his career back on track with the Flyers.
Allen York saw time in 11 NHL games with the 2011/12 Columbus Blue Jackets.

Jacob Markstrom

Top prospect Jacob Markstrom has played just over 30 games for the Florida Panthers.  He's projected as their future #1 net minder, and has been for some time.  

Chris Holt and Joey MacDonald

Chris Holt appeared in a game for the 2005/06 New York Rangers and a game for the 2008/09 St. Louis Blues.
Joey MacDonald has played well over 100 NHL games between the Red Wings, Bruins, Islanders, Maple Leafs and Flames.

Tomas Surovy and Martin Karsums

I had read about these Riga Dynamo certified team autograph cards but never had the chance to buy any until I came across these.  There's a similar looking set of these cards with facsimile signatures but these are the real deal.  Between 2002 and 2006 Tomas Surovy played 126 NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  He scored 27 goals and 59 points.
During the 2008/09 season Maritn Karsums appeared in 24 NHL games between the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Mathias Johansson and Duvie Westcott

Drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1992, Mathias Johansson didn't make the jump to North America until 2002. The Swede split the 2002/03 season, his only in the NHL, with the Flames and Pittsburgh Penguins.  He doesn't have any North American issued certified autographs.
Duvie Westcott played 201 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets between 2002 and 2008.  He appears to have signed the card with a pen first then a marker.

Matt Frattin and Evgeny Dadonov

After a couple seasons with Toronto Matt Frattin was recently shipped to the LA Kings in the Jonathan Bernier trade.

Russian native Evgeny Dadonov played 55 games for the Florida Panthers before returning home to the  KHL.  He actually showed enough potential in 2011 to be named to the NHL's All Rookie team. 

Robert Nilsson and Lars Eller

Drafted 15th overall in 2003, Robert Nilsson played 252 NHL games between the New York Islanders, his draft team, and the Edmonton Oilers.
The St. Louis Blues selected Lars Eller 13th overall in the 2007 draft.  He only played 7 games for the Blues before being traded to Montreal for Jaroslav Halak.  He's played 3 full seasons for the Habs.

John Carlson and Andrei Zubarev

Although he has played well over 200 NHL games for the Caps, John Carlson is best remembered by most hockey fans for scoring the 2010 World Juniors gold medal winning OT goal against Canada, giving Team USA the win.
Andrei Zubarev played 4 games for the 2010/2011 Atlanta Thrashers.  This limited KHL autograph is his only certified signature.

Brendon Nash and John Negrin

Undrafted Cornell grad Brendon Nash played 2 games for the 2010/11 Montreal Canadiens.
John Negrin played 3 games for the 2008/09 Calgary Flames.

Petr Cajanek and David Backes

Between 2002 and 2007 Petr Cajanek played 250+ NHL games for the St. Louis Blues. He scored 46 goals and 150+ points.
St. Louis Blues captain David Backes has 300+ points in just over 500 NHL games.   He won an olympic silver medal with Team USA in 2010.

Antti Miettinen and Nathan Oystrick

Finnish forward Antti Miettinen has appeared in 500+ NHL games between the Stars, Wild and Jets.  His best season was a 20 goal, 42 point performance for the 09/10 Minnesota Wild.

Nathan Oystrick played 65 NHL games between the Thrashers, Ducks and Blues. 

Evgeny Grachev and Derek Roy

Evgeny Grachev has played 34 NHL games between the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues.

Derek Roy is a high quality NHL talent.  He has been a top line forward on almost every team he's played for. He's best season was a 32 goal, 81 point year with the 07/08 Buffalo Sabres.  

Jaroslav Spacek and Chris Therien

Jaroslav Spacek played over a dozen full seasons in the NHL.  He won an Olympic gold medal in 1998 and a bronze in 2006 with the Czech Republic. 

Chris Therien spent a full decade and almost his entire career with the Philadelphia Flyers.  He won an Olympic silver medal with Team Canada as a junior in 1994.  

Ken Gernander and Jeff Buchanan

Currently head coach of the Ranger's AHL team, Ken Gernander played 12 games for New York.
Jeff Buchanan played 6 games for the 1998/99 Colorado Avalanche.

Darrel Scoville and David Moravec

Darrel Scovile split his 16 game NHL career between the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Czech native David Moravec is a 'one game wonder,' seeing time for the 1999/2000 Buffalo Sabres.

Jeff Serowik and Josef Melichar

Jeff Serowik made his NHL debut for the 1990/91 Toronto Maple Leafs.  He only played 1 game for the club.  His next taste of the NHL was another 1 game call up, this time for the 1994/95 Boston Bruins.  His final apperance in the league was a 26 game stint for the 1998/99 Pittsburgh Penguins.  

There are only a handful of NHL players who have played as many NHL games as Josef Melichar in this decade and not been issued a certified autograph.  Between 2001 and 2009 he played 350+ games between the Penguins, Hurricanes and Lightning. 

Claude Vilgrain and Jarrett Deuling

The NHL's first Haitian born player, Claude Vilgrain played 100 games in the league between the Canucks, Devils and Flyers. 

Jerrett Deuling played 15 games for the New York Islanders in the 1990s.

Joel Savage and Bob Logan

Picked 13th overall in the 1988 NHL draft, Joel Savage only played 3 games for the team in the early 1990s.
Bob Logan saw time in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings.  He played 42 total games, scoring 10 goals.

Denis Chasse and Rob Robinson

Through the 1990s Denis Chasse played 139 NHL games between the Blues, Capitals, Jets and Senators.
Rob Robinson played 22 games for the 1991/92 St. Louis Blues, his only season in the league.

Yves Belanger and Jacques Mailhot

Yves Belanger backstopped 78 NHL games.  He was a St. Louis Blue, Atlanta Flame and Boston Bruin.  Regarding the inscription, he finished his career here in Charlottetown playing senior hockey.  

Undrafted Quebec native Jacques Mailhot played 5 games for the 1988/89 Nordiques.

Dave Morrison and Pat Mayer

Currently a scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dave Morrison played 39 NHL games between the LA Kings and Vancouver Canucks in the 1980s.  

A 'one game wonder,' Pat Mayer saw his only NHL game come with the 1987/88 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jim Pavese and Dennis Owchar

Through the 1980s Jim Pavese saw 350+ games of NHL action between Blues, Red Wings, Rangers and Whalers. 

Dennis Owchar played half a dozen seasons in the NHL.  

Rick Hampton and Scot Kleinendorst

Rick Hampton played well over 300 NHL games in the mid to late 1970s.  He suited up for the Golden Seals, Barons and Kings.  

Through the 1980s Scot Kleinendorst played just over 300 NHL games between the Rangers, Whalers and Capitals.  He certainly doesn't have much of an autograph for a retired player.  

Rob Flockhart and Brad Gassoff

Between 1976 and 1981 Rob Flockhart saw 50+ games of NHL action between the Canucks and North Stars.  

In the late 1970s Brad Gassoff dressed in 125 games for the Vancouver Canucks. His brother Bob also played in the NHL.  

Bob Lorimer and Rod Dallman

Bob Lorimer played well over 500 games in the NHL.  He won 2 Stanley Cups, in 1980 and 1981, with the New York Islanders. 

Rod Dallman played 7 games in the NHL, 5 with the Islanders and 2 with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Butch Deadmarsh and Peter Sullivan

Butch Deadmarsh played a few seasons in the NHL and then jumped to the WHA, retiring a Cincinnati Stinger in 1978.  

Peter Sullivan played 4 seasons for the WHA's Winnipeg Jets before following the team into the NHL. He dressed in 126 NHL games as a Jet. 

Frank St. Marseille and Ray Fortin

The NHL expansion of 1967 allowed Frank St. Marseille to break into the NHL as an original St. Louis Blue.  He retired with 700+ games played in the league and 5 seasons of 15+ goals.  

Also an original St. Louis Blue, Ray Fortin spent the better part of 3 seasons with the Blues. 

I also got a handful of new hockey related autographs, they don't count towards my total because none played in the NHL but they each hold a special place in hockey history.

Alexander Maltsev and Mike Eruzione

While neither played in the NHL these are still two significant additions to my hockey autograph collection.  Alex Ovechkin's childhood hero, Alexander Maltsev was one of the USSR's best players for a decade.  He won 2 Olympic gold medals and a silver with the team.

The movie Miracle made Mike Eruzione a household name again in the United States.  He captained the fairy tale 1980 US Olympic team to the gold medal then retired from the game.  

Jim Benzelock and Rick Fraser

Jim Benzelock spent 4 seasons in the WHA.  He played for the Alberta Oilers, Chicago Cougars and Quebec Nordiques.

Father of one time NHLer Jamie Fraser, Rick Fraser played 4 games for the WHA's 1974/75 Indianapolis Racers.  

Clay Hebenton and Greg Neeld

Clay Hebenton was the Phoenix Roadrunner's #1 goalie through the WHA's 1976/77 season.

Greg Neeld played 17 games in the WHA with the 1975/76 Toronto Toros. 

Janet and Louise Arters

Known as the Sparkle Twins, Janet and Louise Arters are my 18th and 19th autographs from the cast of Slap Shot, the greatest hockey movie ever made.  This is my first purchase from the Slap Shot memorabilia website MadBrothers.com, with a couple more likely to come.  I decided to buy the signatures since I couldn't dig up an address for either twin.  

Stephen Mendillo

I had tried sending a couple requests to Stephen Mendillo but with no returns I decided to bite on this cheap piece of Hollywood memorabilia.  It's an old form filled out and autographed by Slap Shot actor Stephen Mendillo.  He played Chief's player Jim Ahern and is my 20th autograph from the movie's cast.  I may cut out the signature and covert it into my standard autograph designed index cards.
